My first painting postpartum, I had no interest in technical precision or a time-consuming piece. The goal was play, experimentation, and even collaboration with my one-year-old, who inspired the work. I began with one blue canvas and one white, treating the white one as a test surface. It quickly became my favorite of the two as I experimented with spray paint techniques, layered textures, and drew overtop with Posca pens. The piece incorporates mixed media, including a sewn section where the canvas tore after my child walked across it. The color palette reflects our home at that time, echoing the bright hues of stacking rings, blocks, and nesting cups.
